Contemporary is in! Rugs, furniture, art and even modern structures are all going for a contemporary feel.  Everybody dreams of having a perfect home. If it is the color scheme on your walls, or the woods you choose for your coffee and end tables; we all have a vision of what is perfect for ourselves.

As somewhat of a “tight wad” myself,  I get ideas from my wife’s home decoration magazines “Pottery Barn” or “Crate and Barrel” then I go online and find the same stuff for cheaper. I’m bad to the point where I see something in a store that I like; I literally bust out my I-phone on the spot and see what I can get it for online. By shopping smart my wife and I have transformed our home by finding online stores with free shipping and great deals.

Literally all end tables, paintings, rugs and a table and chair set were purchased online. I figured out the total savings one night and it was right around $2,350. To me that is a substantial amount of cash in my pocket. On our rugs alone we saved around $1,700. I truthfully believe the internet can save people thousands of dollars per year, with the one downfall of waiting for shipping. There are great deals out there; it’s just sometimes a pain in the neck to find them.

People get somewhat freaked out making a large purchases online. I don’t blame you, but the year is 2011. These rug vendors (or anywhere you are shopping) are very reputable companies and very safe places to shop.

One interesting fact I thought I’d share to people looking for contemporary rugs is that Persian Rugs are going to sky rocket in price within the next year or so.  There is an embargo in some of the major carpet making countries and certain products are going to become scarce.  Apparently Oriental and Persian rugs are going to be one of these exports, and price is supposed to blow up.  With that in mind contemporary rugs are definitely going to be the way to go.

I will be the first to confirm contemporary rugs are the hottest genre or style of rugs going into people’s homes, regardless of what other rug markets are doing. For whatever reason the contemporary style is what people are looking for? I can’t blame you either; we have a great zebra print in our bedroom!  Un-cage the wild animal within. Lol. All jokes aside, a great rug adds a lot to any room.

Another thing we consider is how obsolete carpet is becoming. Carpet holds on to germs and dust that can affect people’s breathing and lung conditions. Trends are geared toward laminate, hardwood, and duraceramic flooring. It all makes sense; Allergies are nearly cut in half with hard flooring. Pet’s hair is easier to clean up. All around maintenance is a sweep and swiffer away. The huge demand for these sort of flooring have made a surplus in supply, so you can actually get this at a reasonable price.

The downfall to having hard flooring is there is no soft play area for the kids/grand-kids or any lying space for a movie night.  A great solution is obviously an area rug that makes the living a space cozy. With the pad and good plush rug an infant no longer has to be rolling around on the hard cold floor.
